Prajnesh Guneshwaran to meet Doumbia in singles finals of $ 50000 KPIT- MSLTA ATP Tennis Challenger

Pune, October 28: India’s eighth seeded Prajnesh Guneshwaran of India created the biggest upset so far knocking out fancied second seeded Duckhee Lee of Korea and enter the mens singles finals of the $50000 KPIT MSLTA ATP Challenger being organized by MSLTA and played at the Mhalunge Balewadi tennis Complex.

In the finals the 26 year Chennai lad Guneshwaran will take on another 26 year old Sadio Doumbia of France who emerged winner against sixth seeded Nikola Milojevic of Serbia 5-7,6-3,6-2 in 1 hour 55 minutes.

It was the biggest result for 346 ranked Prajnesh Guneshwaran from Chennai ousting second seeded and 152 ranked 18 year old Duckhee Lee of Korea 6-2,7-5 in just over a hour , it was Guneshwaran’s second win over Lee in the year earlier he had won against Lee at Bangkok Challenger ,

” The win ensures Guneshwaran will move to his best ever ranking next week , a win will ensure 80 points while being runners up will fetch him a minimum 42 points which also ensures a higher ranking . Prajnesh will be the second Indian to make it to the finals of the KPIT ATP after Yuki Bhambri who emerged winner last year.

” The tournament is truly helping Indian players to make important points and I’m truly glad to make it to the finals ” said the tall lad from Chennai .

Prajnesh took the first set in just 24 minutes he broke the favourite Lee in the 5th and the 7th game to win the set 6-2 , in the second set which was well contested Prajnesh broke Lee in the 5th game to lead 4-2 but Lee broke back Prajnesh in the 8th game to level scores at 4-4 . Prajnesh got the break he wanted in the 11th game and held on at love with an Ace to finish the match 7-5 and enter the final for the first time in the Challenger.

Prajnesh will now take on Sadio Doumbia ranked 359 in the world who came came back from the loss of the first set to oust sixth seeded and 220 ranked and sixth seeded Nikola Milojevic of Serbia 5-7, 6-3, 6-2.

Giant killers Luca Margaroli of Switzerland and Hugo Nys of France continued their winning spree reaching the finals in the doubles , the pair which ousted second seeded Leander Paes and Ramkumar Ramnathan upset fourth seeded

Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and /N Vijay Sundar Prashanth 6-3,3-6,13-11.
They will now take on top seeded Indian Pair of
Purav Raja and Divij Sharan who outplayed Nikola Milojevic and Danilo Petrovic of Serbia

The singles finals will be played 3 pm onwards which will followed by the doubles finals ,the prizes will be given away at the hands of Chairman of the organizing Committee Kishor Patil , MSLTA secretary Sunder Iyer
